Born 3 months early, Amaterasu (nickname: Terra) was colorblind for the first 6 years of her life. Her parents agreed to let Terra have a new brain surgery to enable her to see colors. The surgery was a success, and after seeing colors for the first time, she became obsessed. She attended sight therapy sessions, and eventually developed a sight for ultra violet and infra red light. She learned to manipulate colors and light, which she uses as Sailor Turtle. Due to the brain surgery, she also developed a talent of mind-manipulation, which she kept hidden from everyone except her sister, and the poor souls who come up against her as Sailor Turtle!
Amaterasu doesn't think much before she acts. She loves "boy stuff" like every sport in the world, picking fights, and mud wrestling. She tends to hang with the guys, but hates being called a tom-boy. She loves spending time with her sis, Sayuri, but she's gets very annoyed when she whines or cries. Although she thinks Sayuri can be a complete ditz, she's convinced that no one can compare with Serena! Opposite from her quiet sister, Terra is loud and sometimes obnoxious. She gets along with most of the Sailor Scouts, but especially Sailor Mars. She finds pleasure in fighting with Rei, because she knows that she can always win against her, unlike trying to outsmart Ami. She doesn't let much get to her, and doesn't let her emotions show. She saves it all up to kick Negabutt.
Her free time is spent mostly on a baseball field (she's the only girl on the "all" boy team), soccer field, or in the arcade. Terra likes anything with chocolate or cheese, and tries to steer clear from anything healthy, which makes ordering out very difficult with Sayuri's veggie diet. She's convinced that after every good game (or fight) she deserves to treat herself to a giant ice cream sundae. She tends to hang out at Lita's, trying all of her new food experiments.
Amaterasu is also known as Sailor Turtle, defender of the sun. Her guardian, a mellowed-out turtle named Prodigy, hangs around to give Terra some advice which she usually doesn't understand. As Sailor Turtle, she uses the powers of light, energy, and replication to battle. Although many of her powers are used as distractions, she makes a good team with her sister, Sailor Froggy. She can't stand long "Get ready to die" speeches, and cuts to the chase when it comes to kicking butt.
